Tommy gets busted for possession of LSD a year after his speeding ticket is over. He pleads guilty, and admits to his probation officer that he has a serious drug dependency problem. The probation officer requires that he report twice a week, come in at least once a week for urinalysis, take weekly drug counseling, attend Narcotics Anonymous.

If he has to report to a PO, he’s on formal probation (a.k.a., Felony Probation)
