What political party should I be affiliated with?
Question by Andrew Kilgannon: What political party should I be affiliated with?
I have views on more or less all topics, but they are very diverse. I mean in the sense that they share views from both Republican AND Democratic Parties. Here are some of my views:
-I am against abortion.
-I oppose gay “marriage,” but not civil union. However,I think that it should be up to the states to decide whether they allow it in their state or not.
-I am against VERY strict gun control. It should be regulated but not to the extent where we aren’t allowed to carry personal defense.
-I feel that there should be tax cuts for lower- to middle-class citizens, and no cuts to richer CEO’s and businessmen.
-I support sex-ed and use of birth control (and also requiring insurance plans that cover prescription drugs to also cover birth control).
-I am against “affirmative action.”
-I am supportive of the death penalty and mandatory sentencing.
-I think that the USA PATRIOT Act WAS a good idea. It definitely needs some revising.
-I am against the use of illegal drugs and supportive of federal funding to drug-prevention programs and rehab facilities.
-I am opposed to allowing illegal immigrants (whether Mexican, German, Italian, or ANY other heritage) to gain official citizenship or stay after moving here illegally.
-I am against the ongoing funding to NASA. We have explored less than 1% of the ocean floor, so why exactly are we exploring other planets if we still don’t know about our own?
-I am supportive of stem-cell research because it is definitely helping to find cures to very destructive and highly prominent diseases, but I am against the use of embryos in cloning.
-I feel that there should be heavy taxes on cigarettes and ANY and ALL forms of alcohol. This will help reduce the use of these by those who are underage.
-I am supportive of the Energy Policy Act.
-I am supportive of universal healthcare.
I do not know as to whether these views are “left-” or “right-wing” or not. These are just my views and I am not entirely sure as to what party I am to be affiliated with. Someone please help me out. Thanks.

You sound like a moderate. You agree with both parties on certain issues. You’re leaning more toward democrat on economic issues, but republican on fundamental issues (besides civil unions). Register Independant, and vote for who you agree with most. I consider myself a democrat, but I do not support federal funding for abortions. As far as everything else goes, I agree with the democratic party completely. I vote both ways sometimes, though. This year, I’m voting for a republican for house of delegates in my district. You really have to look at the candidate, regardless of how you are registered. I suggest you go to candidates’ websites and check it all out for yourself.
