is it legal to court order a person into a faith focused drug treatment program?

Question by Deborah H: is it legal to court order a person into a faith focused drug treatment program?

I am asking this because addiction is a medical problem not a moral problem. I am not from California. I work in this field and was appalled when I found out the courts are sentencing people to a faith/work program that offers no substance abuse treatment, makes people stop taking any medication they are prescribed for physical or mental health needs and refuse to allow the people sentenced to their program to access outside professional services. If a person gets sick or has a mental breakdown, they are kicked out of the program and are violated by probation. A sex offender, arsonist, domestic violence offender or any other criminal actions, do not ever get court ordered to a religious program, so why only drug abusers?
