Question by sarah283724: If a man’s children both recieve social security benefits(not from him-b/c of mental illness)does he hafta pay?
A friend of mine has 2 children with his ex-wife…..she has gotten them both on SSDI….supposedly because of mental illness or something but it’s bull-they are normal kids and I can’t believe she would be willing to put them on meds so young!!!! Anyway-they each get like $ 900.00 a month and her new husband also recieves SSDI -he gets a lot more, maybe $ 1,300.He also works either under the table or selling pot.My point is they really have quite an income between her,her husband and the 2 kids. SSDI is government $ $ $ right? Well she’s recieving it wrongfully(they are not mentally ill !) and their father is really struggling with trying to get anywhere. He’s a roofer and it’s not steady…it’s under the table and they are out from november to march-they work from april through october. But he has to stay at his current job b/c he struggles with drugs and alcohol and he can’t get into trouble with the boss he has-it’s his grilfriend’s brother and he sort of looks out for him.so that’s details but my question is-isn’t she being a bit greedy for $ $ $ when she’s getting so much from the government( by lieing!!! ) already through SSDI and her husband (i’m pretty sure )selling pot?????? He’s not stable or together enough to handle the responsibility of being involved in their lives right now or having to pay money when she’s got more than enough already. How can he take care of them when he can barely keep himself afloat???? Ideal? >>NO<<.....but life isn't always and this is his situation right now.So what the heck should he do???Please-advice....I don't wanna hear crap from women who automatically(no matter WHAT the situation is) bash the man b/c he's man.Seriously.....I'm a single mom-I UNDERSTAND....REALLY.But not every guy who has trouble paying his c/s is a piece of crap. It's not black and white as much as I know some people like to think it is.He's already in counseling and some other programs to help wih the addiction/relapse dangers.SO what should he do??? SHe's tryingto get something from him that he really cant provide and she really doesn't need( I've met them and they have way too much for kids their age-I'd even say spoiled.....air jordans and EXPENSIVE clothes.....every game system you couldimagine,i-pods,fancycell phones....they're 9+11 for god's sake.....the mom has 2 vehicles and owns a home-it would be an extra $ 600.00 a month for her that she really doesn't need....but to him it would be HALF of his income !!!!! The courts are alwys biased toward the fathers-everyone knows that......so what is he spposed to do??? This is a very REAL and SERIOUS problem he's facing.....any help would genuinely be appreciated.............

A person can still work and receive SSDI, but there is a limit.
You really don’t know why the children are receiving SSDI, if indeed they are.
The Mothers, step-dad’s and children’s incomes are irrelevant when it comes to paying child support.
He helped make the children, he should help support them.
However, because of his lack of income, he could go before the judge and have payments reduced.
