How sick did you get kicking crack cocaine?
Question by Linna S: How sick did you get kicking crack cocaine?
I’m a little concerned because my friend’s brother is an addict who says he kicked the habit by himself with no problem. I think he’s still using but she doesn’t. He’s constantly asking her for 5 bucks for Taco Bell, or to borrow 20 bucks to take a friend out for a drink. She’ll give him the last of her money. I told her he’s still smoking crack. She asked him if he was and he said he kicked his habit by himself. I think he’s lying.
The only person I’ve known of who used to be a crack addict is a friend of a friend. I asked my friend to ask her what it was like to kick the habit alone and she said, through my friend, that the only way she kicked was in jail and that she “got really really sick.”
I told my friend that a person can’t kick a crack habit by themselves because they “get really really sick,” but she discounted that. After all, what is “really really sick”?
Anyone out there experience themselves what it’s like to get sick kicking a crack habit? What exactly happens?
Thx for your help, answerers.
Thank you Jamie and nyskier. It sounds like something he would’ve been hospitalized for if someone had found him so sick.

Hate to tell you this but when you quit doing crack, you get very noticeably sick. I have been with people going through it and it’s pretty horrific. Honestly, I have a lot of experience dealing with addicts and recovering addicts and the only way is with professional mental and physical support.
More specifically, “really really sick” is right on, girl.
Convulsing, vomiting, heavy sweats, insomnia, severe restlessness, crazy mood swings
