How do i tell if i am going through benzo withdrawal?
Question by Kickingthesh*t: How do i tell if i am going through benzo withdrawal?
I think I would have a better idea if I wasnt detoxing from heroin as well. The reason I ask about benzo’s is because I have been taking Xanax and Klonopin for about 5 months. However I will only go through approx 5 day binge periods every month (when i get my scripts) I havent used heroin for 10 days now. Although the worst has past, I still feel sick, however, opposed to the heroin withdrawal which is pure misery mixed with anxiety, I just feel panicky now, like my chest is light and always full of air. I havent used benzo’s for about 10 days too. I would apprieciate any input anyone might have. Thanks.

The problem with long term use of benzo’s (no matter how small the dosages) is that the brain makes physical adaptations to counteract the drug’s effects, these are known as tolerance and physical dependence.
Severe withdrawal symptoms can occur during gradual dose reduction or from relatively low doses. Symptoms may occur for weeks or months after cessaton of all benzodiazepines, for some the withdrawal effects can last a year or more.
Symptoms of withdrawal:
anxiety, possible terror and panic attacks
agitation and restlessness
hypochondria
impaired concentration
nightmares
insomnia
muscle spasms, cramps or fasciculations
electric shock sensations
blurred vision
dizziness
dry mouth
aches and pains
hearing impairment
taste and smell disturbances
chest pain
flu-like symptoms
impaired memory and concentration
sensitivity to sound
increased urinary frequency
numbness and tingling
hot and cold flushes
headaches
