Question by circa 1980: Has anyone lost a parent to suicide?
My Dad committed suicide 2 days after this past Christmas. He lived in Las Vegas (2,000 miles away). He’d always wanted to move there…and he sort of disconnected from a wonderful family and friends. I never saw it coming. I went through depression in my early 20s, and my Dad was the one that snapped me out of it. I think the only reason I’ve been able to deal is my daughter, who was born EXACTLY one month after my father’s death. He even sent a goodbye letter saying he was sorry he couldn’t meet his first Granddaughter, and that “it couldn’t be helped”. I am so haunted by this.
My daughter is about to meet her Daddy’s father, and I’m afraid I’m going to be so angry inside that this alcoholic pothead is the only Grandfather she’ll know. She won’t know how hilarious my Dad was. I want to be mad at him for this, but if he can see me, I don’t want him to be in an eternity where he sees how hurt I am. So, I try really not to show it too much.

P.S. I despise Las Vegas.

please don’t carry anger. i know it’s hard but please don’t! join a support group in your area, it will help!
