Why do atheists take part in the lottery, use poker machines, gamble etc?

Question by ツ Chess for Olympic Sport: Why do atheists take part in the lottery, use poker machines, gamble etc?
Doesn’t your “logic” , “common sense” “science (statistics)” tell you that you will not make any money out of it

And you dont have any faith or hope of winning… so why do you still do it?
in the end, u will win more then u lose

i thought that was “common sense”

Not an atheist myself but I figure I can answer this rather handily: There’s a probability they will win. Just because they don’t believe in a deity or the supernatural doesn’t mean that they will not have hope either. They want a better life, it costs them little and, logically speaking, someone will win. The probability of it being them may be low but 1 in 13 million is infinitely higher than zero.

Besides, people win with poker machines and other forms of gambling all the time. The odds of winning at normal gambling, such as playing cards, are even higher.

Perhaps you should re-evaluate your view of atheists; they’re not mechanical automata. They still have hope.
