How to Find the Best Arthritis Specialist?

Question by tiffany cupcake: How to Find the Best Arthritis Specialist?
I have had juvenile rheumatoid Arthritis since I was in like 3rd grade. I haven’t got it checked out since I was in 5th grade. I did blood test after blood test, X ray after X ray. But now I’m 21 and my doctor (i’ve had for 2 years) told me I should go to a specialist because it has gotten worse (at least the pain has). I feel like my knees are weaker (its in my leg joints from top to bottom.) I was wondering, how to find a specialist that works for me? My doctor recommended me one but shes just going to put me on some medicine saying its going to stop it and I’m afraid of that stuff because it hasn’t been out long enough. I’m not sure what to look for since I’m only 21. I don’t want to be EVER be on pain pills that scares me as well (I don’t want addiction). But other alternatives would be nice. Help please! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY THANKS!
ps I have taken Naproxen (I HATE IT, I get sick and dizzy from it) and my old doctor used to tell me to down ibuprofen (I’m afraid will harm me if I keep that up) And I exercise 2 times a week to keep joints good and healthy :/

As you know, JA is nasty. The newer “disease modifying” drugs are good at slowing / stopping the progress of the disease. Sit down & have a talk with your current specialist. Talk about your concerns, so she can address them.

If you wish, check with the Rheumatology department of a nearby medical school hospital.
