Vicodin addiction or abuse? What can I expect next?
Question by Randomguy123: Vicodin addiction or abuse? What can I expect next?
Hi all, roughly for the last 6-8 months, with a month of quitting in between I have been taking vicodin for my back which was prescribed by my Dr. My situation however is different. After my pain subsided I quit, only to find myself taking them on the weekends for the euphoric feeling while I drink (I know, irresponsible). I do not take any during the weekdays, I have a job and workout 4 days a week, and have no urges to do so. Unfortunately, when the weekend comes around, I find myself taking them and going about my daily activities and going out at night. When I drink, I find it pretty difficult to not want to have them. I want out of this vicious cycle!!
My question is, what can I expect next if I quit. I have never had any physical withdrawals (Its friday and I haven’t taken any since last Sat, I assume I would have already experienced those?) so am I truly addicted, will it be difficult to quit? Maybe I should give up drinking for awhile until I am able to drink enjoyably without the feeling of wanting to take Vicodin? Can I expect any sort of depression or anxiety? Or is it basically in my head and I just need to man up and realize there is no light at the end of this tunnel and remind myself of what this drug is capable of….If I find myself wanting to take them, how long until the urges subside? Thanks for the replies.

You know what your trigger is to want the drug. If you want to get rid of the drug you have to remove the trigger and you can also get rid of any extra pills you have laying around. By keeping them you are only setting yourself up for failure. when you really want to quit the first thing you will do is get rid of any unneeded pills so they can’t tempt you. Until then you are just passing out lip service.
