Why should drug users be jailed?

Question by Tim S: Why should drug users be jailed?
Why, in your opinion, do you think it’s acceptable to put drug users in jail? Why is jail a better system then heavy civil fines/mandatory counseling? I understand it’s breaking the law, but why does the law say someone who is only doing harm to themselves deserve to be jailed?
I said users, not dealers.

What do you think would be more tramatizing to a child, one of their parents who occasionally uses drugs, or one of their parents basically being sucked out of their life for a year or more?

Bad parents are bad parents, regardless of drug use. A drug user can still be a good responsible person.

i think there should be a rule like 3 times caught your out
once you start its an addiction and its hard to stop
they should send you to consuling or something or make you pay a fine
