Why should an individual caught with marijuana be charged with intent to sell because it weighs over an amount

Question by iloveagoodarguement: Why should an individual caught with marijuana be charged with intent to sell because it weighs over an amount
Hypothteical: Think about it, if five cigarette joints worth of marijuana is considered “for personal use” and six or more is considered “intent to sell” should a person caught with ten joints worth of marijuana be persecuted in court? Obviously there is a fine line between a few joints worth and ounces/pounds/tons. Americans are know to buy in bulk (i.e. sams club/costco) so why not buy are drugs in bulk? I’m not in trouble nor do I know anyone who is, but I was thinking about the amount of time wasted in the courts for RESPONSIBLE GROWN ADULTS who get sucked into this simply because they got caught. Forget the reality that its against the law, and thats that. I know society needs thresholds/limit to put those that deserve to be on a higher level, but I think the governments laws on marijuana or following the lines of a kangeroo court
When I say “persecuted in court”, I mean should that person be charged as a drug dealer?
OK Gordon, you are missing the point and are no doubt an example of the arrogant lawmakers who created these laws. Stop disecting my question and look at from an open perspective jerk. So sorry my spelling is off, I have severe tendonitis in my wrist which limits my ability to fully utilize my typing fingers, so sorry to inconvenience you arrogant little prick

Oh, great idea. Let’s start by “forgetting the reality,” and go from there!

Legislature makes the laws, not the courts. Your
“Kangeroo Court” comment suggests you need a remedial civics class, as well as one in remedial spelling.

People don’t “get sucked into” the criminal justice system “just because they got caught,” they get sucked in because they are committing crimes. “RESPONSIBLE GROWN ADULTS” follow the rule of law. They don’t get caught because they aren’t criminals.

But thanks for making me an arrogant lawmaker. It sure beats being just a plain lawyer with a clue. Am I a senator or a congressman? Whoopee!
