Why is the thinking self is considered an enemy in Alcoholics Anonymous?
Question by abnjim5: Why is the thinking self is considered an enemy in Alcoholics Anonymous?
In AA, self will (thinking) is considered taboo, and if one thinks, the thoughts will only lead to drinking the drug alcohol. Alcoholics Anonymous also tells it’s “newcomers” that they are “powerless” over their thoughts and behaviour and must “surrender” to a God or higher power to “recover” from their “disease” of drug addiction. It appears that thinking and self-will, as described in AA, only leads to another relapse of their drug alcohol. Apparently AA believes the human mind (self-will) can only be used to bring “death and insanity” to a person that suffers from drug addiction. If a person in AA attempts to understand why AA instructs or “suggests” these “principles”, they are scolded by AA members and told that they are “intellectualizing” and in Denial.
Since it has been proven that humans can indeed think themselves well from a self-defeating thought process, why does AA continue with this erroneous and human unfriendly dogma that people cannot control their thoughts????
