Question by Ruhamah: why is it the women, freinds, mothers, bosses, etc of alcholic men have to consider how the alcoholic …?
is wounded and sick, but no one has to care about us?(DISCLAIMER: SEXISM AND BIAS). all the men i have been with in recovery, like dont work a job in your first year(i mean all of them, not the ones this might just be nessecary for), and when i go to get childsupport, when i need to go to a meeting, when i need outside support, i’m told i dont need to depend upon ne one but me, and that in my recoveryt i shouldnt have expectations. as if my addiction to meth heroine, coffe, men, cleaning, etc. doenst matter…and that i should be well. i should provide for three fatherless kids, even though, i only provide food and shelter and clothes…and no one gets to support my disease. my needs, my wants. i was 26, when i met my sons dad. i’ve gone though relationshoips, and jobs i couldnt hold cause my child wouldnt behave. i asked family in texas to get us, they wont. i had an old man come up here from there, and now he’s gone. and my life is ok, but were stuck. and it sucks.

It sounds to me like you have been stuck in the 12-step “recovery” world for way too long. That stuff about “no expectations” is complete nonsense, and the “if we are disturbed, something is the matter with us” idea….insane.

You do matter.

So my suggestion is…try something else. Stop going to the meetings. I know, I know, they’ve told you you’ll die if you do that. Don’t believe them. I left…and I’m still sober. Happier, too, and no longer stuck.
