Why do you suppose people are interested in religion nowadays? Why have the Abrahamic faiths lasted this long?

Question by pinky: Why do you suppose people are interested in religion nowadays? Why have the Abrahamic faiths lasted this long?
Some people go so far in their interest in it to actually study it formally for years upon years (paying money to study it at a college). Even many atheists cannot help but read about them and drone on about them. Why does this phenomenon happen? What is so interesting or intriguing about religion, especially the Abrahamic ones, that it consumes peoples lives. Religion seems to have many believers AND disbelievers in some sort of trance or addiction. Explain why.
It consumes their lives and personalities.

Interesting question.

May be we are programmed to be like that. ( to believe in One God, but some people tend to reject)

Abrahamic religions are the only true religions from the true God, thats why they lasted this long.
