Why do people promote being fat as part of their identity?

Question by ♥ eѕѕвee: Why do people promote being fat as part of their identity?
Being fat is not who you are, nor is it a personality. It’s a health hazard for your self. You don’t see people promoting meth as part of their identity. Gaining and Losing weight is normal throughout a persons life. It is not a set identity. It is very possible to change.

I mean in way if you begin to accept that your large and decide there’s nothing you can do about it (thats where your wrong) then you’ll stay there for the rest of your life. Although I noticed that those who are more overweight tend to have this mentality (or else they’d have gotten healthy by now..)

The point I’m trying to make is that even though a person is overweight/ obese, YOU DON’T HAVE TO ACCEPT IT IF ITS DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR HEALTH. In fact, you should fight it in order to better yourself and live a healthy life style.

My mom was huge when she was pregnant with her last child… and stayed that way. But instead of accepting that she would stay big forever after the weight didn’t come off right away, she begin to work at changing her eating habits. She described to me once that It was hard because eating and not working out was something that was easy and that she was really used to. It was weird she described it as sort of an addiction “I tried to stop [eating unhealthy food] but kept coming back”.

Your thoughts?
