Why do I feel sad during things that should be fun?
Question by gil: Why do I feel sad during things that should be fun?
I love dancing, going to laid back local bars and being with my friends and boyfriend, but for some reason I feel sadness and some guilt whenever I go out, even if we are not spending money. It’s like anything fun makes me feel like I should be doing something more “useful”. It doesn’t seem like I am sad about other things and it spills over, it seems to specifically be linked to going out because when we get home I feel all better.
Some details about me, I’m 22, college student, been with my boyfriend for about 2 and a half years and love him very much, reliable and caring friends.
I just want to be able to let go and relax WITHOUT using alcohol (which I have found to “help” in the past but and not interested in using it to cover up why I feel this way)
Thanks in advance for your help :]

Sadness and guilt are feelings usually associated with depression. Especially, if there is no apparent obvious ’cause’ like breavement etc. Don’t be like me and leave this for ages like ‘it will maybe go away’ because it probably won’t. I would initially just go to your GP/doc and get some blood tests, like to test for any thyroid problems, diabetes etc as they can cause symptoms like depression. Make any changes to improve your diet if you can and try to get some exercise as this can help. After that if nothing is improves you can consider other options such as meds , CBT etc . Wish you all the best, sweetie x oh and mention to your boyfriend and friends how you feel, they may be able to provide you with some love and support (I should try this too really but it’s not always easy to explain how you feel 🙂 Good luck
