Yes, to a mild degree. I got out before it got too bad. Just because someone says they can’t help it, even if it’s true, that doesn’t negate the fact that they have hurt a lot of people. Saying “sorry” doesn’t erase the years of lying, stealing, cheating and pain that person is responsible for. They can get their sympathy in group meetings. Being harshly judged is part of the recovery.
