Who Programmed You for Addiction?

If you’re struggling with addiction you have to look at how your reality was programmed. What words entered into your brain and formed your character?

It’s important to understand that the most significant period for programming your brain is from 0 to 14 years of age. That’s because you’re too young and inexperienced that you do not question the input that you receive. So instead of processing the information in your conscious mind, you accept it directly into your subconscious.

There’s always a war going on between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind.  The conscious mind is the preferred leader because it can recognize, identify, organize and file sensory information.  However, your subconscious is the worst leader.  It passively accepts whatever input it receives without discrimination. Your addictions are usually built upon your childhood perception of reality that was placed in your subconscious mind.

ZERO TO SEVEN YEARS

Let’s start by looking at ages zero to seven because zero to seven years of age is the most critical period when your files of reality were being shaped. Your primary programmer for this period is your parent or persons that were raising you. So if your parent was going through drugs or relational problems, you, the baby, suffered for it. That is going to have a major role on your ability to grow into maturity.

Maybe your parents were quite young when they had you. Now you have younger sisters or brothers who are much more stable than you are and you ask; “Why are they doing so well when I am doing so poorly?” The answer is that your household had changed by the time your brothers or sisters came along. Your mother or father had become much smarter about how to rear a child.  You were the trial model.

The second most important influence from zero to seven is your siblings.  Did you get teased a lot by your siblings?  Were you called dumb or stupid, teased for having a big forehead or big feet?  Still today, you wear your hair a certain way or act a certain way because of what they said.

If you don’t take the time to look back at the words that programmed your brain during these formative years, you’ll always find yourself reacting out of these past files.  Those words have created your reality.  It’s been stated, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”  That is so untrue.  The broken bones will heal, but the scars that words leave do not heal automatically.
