Who is to blame in regards to these sexual abuse scandals?
Question by TheDynasty Stresses Forechecking: Who is to blame in regards to these sexual abuse scandals?
I do not know whether to defend Pope Benedict, or to be angry with him.
I am most certainly furious with these sick, pathetic, disgraceful priests who have abused young children, but am unsure if anybody should be to blame for covering these things up, not dealing with them, not punishing those responsible, etc.
I am a conservative American Catholic, and I dont know who is to blame, who is at fault, and who is simply being accused of things they did not do. Do I defend the Pope?
I would like the opinion of Catholics and Christians around the world. Please do not hide anything, set aside personal bias, and just give me the straight truth, or at least bring me up to speed the best you can. These scandals are growing very irritating and I dont know whether I should be offended by those accusing the Pope and other members of the church of covering up acts of abuse and not punishing those responsible, or if I should be upset myself with some members of the church.
Thanks.
Thank you for your expertise, wisdom, and inspirational words Father. I will continue defending the honor of Pope Benedict and the good name of the Church.

Simple, charges to be followed by a trial. That’s how things are supposed to work.
