Who can I talk to about alcohol problems?

Question by Judy: Who can I talk to about alcohol problems?
I went through alcohol treatment a few years ago, stayed sober for 2 years, went through an awful breakup and decided to start drinking again. This time, I didn’t drink to kill myself, I just started having a drink every now and then with girlfriends. I’ve been doing this for about 9 months and my drinking hasn’t been problematic for my life the way it was many years ago before treatment.

However, a piece of me still feels like I’m setting myself up. I don’t drink and drive. I don’t spend all my money at the bar. I don’t go home with random guys or bring guys home. I don’t even really go out that often, but still, most mornings after I’ve been out I feel bad.

I want to talk about my drinking with someone who knows what they’re talking about. Where can I go for help?

If you are a religious person, your pastor should be able to help you. If not, or if you are not comfortable speaking about this with that person, you could try an organization such as Alcoholics Anonymous or a professional counselor. The great thing about these options is your conversations should remain private and confidential.

Good luck!
