What to do about drug-abusing daughter living with her father?
My daughter is 17 years old and, until Christmas break this year, was living with me and my husband at home. We’ve had problems with her “overstepping her boundaries” for several years, now, and were forced into sending her to live with her father 20 miles away once she started bringing drugs into our home.
It started with occasional pot and has now escalated to cocaine and alcohol use as well. We just found out about the cocaine last week and her father continues to let her go out with people we know are getting high with her.
I can’t get her father to do so much as ground her. I thought that sending her to live with dad would put some responsibility on him and straighten her out…at least by keeping her away from her drug connections. Now, I see how wrong I was.
Dad doesn’t want to take her to the hospital to have her evaluated for drug/alcohol treatment and evaluation for depression/bipolar/personality disorder. I believe this is what she needs. What do I do?
