What should I take to improve my muscle mass? (protein/creatine?)?
Question by Rich: What should I take to improve my muscle mass? (protein/creatine?)?
I’ve been lifting approx. 3 times a week since october. I’m mainly trying to build upper body. idk if i should buy protein or creatine or what? i weigh about 160 lbs, im 17 years old, and im 6 foot tall… I’m getting a little stronger but only about 10lbs. more in each lift since october… I’m thinking about just buying muscle milk. I know two of my friends take Jack3d and celltech… little help please!? thanks!

have you gained weight since oct?
if not then you aren’t eating enough calories.
protein powder nor creatine are necessary if you eat enough healthy calories.
that’s why they are called supplements.
okay to take if you want to.

I can help you. You have the height and are a little on the skinny side but you are young and have plenty of potential to really get a nice physique especially when you fill out once you hit your mid 20’s.
So here’s the breakdown man. As for what to take, just remember this. Supplements are just what their name indicates. They help “supplement” your workouts. Don’t be one of those dudes who spend hundreds of bucks on supplements without a clue what to get. You aren’t obviously b/c you’re fairly new to the game but this is just a cautionary tale. What you eat and your workout is ultimately going to help you make gains.
Buy protein powder. Stick to an isolate. I will post links in a bit. Drink it post workout for quick recovery.
Creatine does really work. Go for a creatine monohydrate. 5 grams per day will suffice. Make sure to cycle off it though every 4-6 weeks give or take.
Preworkout supplements are optional. I wouldn’t rely heavily on them but I have taken Jack3d and it’s pretty good but not necessary.
Those 3 supplements is all you really need at the max. Protein powder, creatine and a preworkout supplement. Don’t waste your money on the other stuff.
Muscle milk is a waste. Look at the nutritional facts. It’s a lot of carbs. No need to even waste money on that. You can have a protein shake with some fruit or something afterwards.
Workout wise, either stick to compound lifts (google it) or if you want to get on a normal bodybuilding routine, try a 3 day split.
Check out my youtube channel below. I listed two of my three workouts for my split and have other videos on post workout nutrition. best of luck. Link below.
