What should I name the lead male character in the play I’m writing?

Question by kelly M: What should I name the lead male character in the play I’m writing?
The plays major theme is addiction (both substance and otherwise). The character, who so far I’ve been calling Tommy, is in his mid twenties. He comes from a family of heavy drinkers and has been abusing alcohol and cocain most of his adult life. His main addiction in the course of this story, however, is to Jade, a fellow addict whom he cannot get enough of, despite her negative affects on his overall quality of life. I call her Jade, because her character is rather Jaded after years of abuse. I would like Tommys name to be more symbollic of his character, any thoughts?

what’s wrong with keeping Tommy? The character you describe has learned all his behavior from his family and is likely dependent on them for validation. Tommy is a nickname for Thomas and one seldom hears of an adult named Tommy.
