Question by Michael: What is it called when excessive drinking alters voice?
I know of people like sports announcer Scott Farrell, and ex porn star Harry Reems that have inherited a raspy voice from years of hard drinking before they admitted to being alcoholics and getting help. Even though they haven’t had a drink in years their voices are still altered and raspy. I was wondering what the medical term for this voice change is.

It may be due to chronic laryngitis which can be due to alcohol or due constant shouting.
Occassionally may be due to tumours of the larynx.
