What is a good method to quit drinking heavily?

Question by Dave N: What is a good method to quit drinking heavily?
I am a college student, and I think I drink way too much. It’s not that I drink all the time, it’s more that when I do drink I just don’t know when to stop. I want to prevent myself from falling into alcoholism later on in life. Any suggestions on how to prevent this?
