the guy i am seeing for about a year and a half wants to become sober. he is torured by events of his past…. he is willing to do anything at this point including anti depressants… he knows he has a problem… he has been going to AA…. he pushes me away from time to time but he also knows that i love him and i believe in him…. and no i will not walk away he needs me but i want to help him the right way…..

He’s already half way there. The best thing that you can do is stick by him. When you start to get sober,you stumble. When he relapses, you can’t be too hard on him. I’m not saying that he’s definitely going to do this, but when I got sober, I fell off so many times that my girlfreind was long gone, which drove me deeper into depression. If he does fall off, don’t let him drink/drug two days in a row. If that happened to me, it usually turned into months before I tried to get sober again. Oh yeah, and don’t drink around him, and get take out instead of eating in a bar, and don’t get mad if he makes new friends at AA. He needs a new group of sober friends.
