Volunteers key in the search for Brittanee Drexel May 8 2009

“We come at the request of the family or law enforcement, we don’t just show up,” said Janice Liggett of the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children. “We’re all just focused on one thing, and that’s finding Brittanee,” said Liggett. Liggett isn’t part of any police department. Neither is Monica Caison, but both are working just as hard as law enforcement to find Brittanee Drexel. When a person goes missing they are part of two organizations that rush to the scene to help – free of charge. “It’s all a non-profit so none of us get paid,” said Liggett. Volunteers from the Laura Recovery Center and Cue Center help fill in the blanks for police and help organize the volunteers that want to help. “Law enforcement come out in great numbers but they also need help and we are part of that professional network,” said Monica Caison of the Cue Center for Missing Persons. “We have the experience to go in and coordinate those efforts and set up search teams for those civilians,”said Liggett. That said, there is no set formula. “There is no defined measure that we do for each case because every case is individual and every case is going to be different,” said Caison. The only thing that is constant is that the people from these organizations will give all they have in an effort to find the missing person. “They’re formed for a reason because there is a need for them in the community,” said Caison.
