URGENT COMPUTER HELP PLEASE! Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.1- (I think)?
Question by Mitch P: URGENT COMPUTER HELP PLEASE! Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.1- (I think)?
OK…I need help. im running a DELL studio 15- 500 GB Hard Drive 6 GB Ram ATI Radeon 512 mb graphics card, the whole shabang, everything runs smoothly and really no problems at all. about 5 days ago all my Friends were talking about ubuntu (Linux.. sorta I guess) don’t know too much about Os’s so anyway. i install it create about a 30 GB partition between my normal 500 gb so now windows 7 has roughly 451 gb’s of hard drive and ubuntu- 30.2 to be exact. and i use it realizes its not right for me and im wondering how to delete the partition now those of you that are familiar with windows 7 know it comes with a reinstalled … i don’t know “partition-er” so anyway on that i find the hard drive space which belongs to ubuntu (it was 30.2 Gb’s) so i usuallydin’tt mess around with Os’s using xp past 6 years so afterdeletingg partitionthinkingg it would automatically merge with my other windows 7 space i thought all was well. so i shut down next day come back turn on computer i see grub loading im like grub i though i deleted udun then it says grub error i try to type “help”, “boot” everythingnotingg happen just says itdoesn’tt recognize “boot” or “help” so i do ctrl alt delete windows starts up again same thing happens so i probably did the STUPIDEST thing i could… i reinstalled ubuntu… AGAIN and everything went fine gave it a tiny amount of spaceroughlyl 1.5 Gb’s just so it could load ubuntu and said to myself whatever 1.5 gbs out of 451 is nothing but now here is the real problem ok so again im cruising everythings going fine shut down go back on late and now grub opens and now its like boot ubuntu twice boot ubuntu recovery mode twice and windows 7 and its very tedious to have to select windows 7 every time i shut down to anyway i needroughlyl 3 things from the yahoo community-
1) tell me how to delete ubuntu
2)tell me how to merge bother partition’s to form one, OR just let me remove ubuntu so i can have a d or e drive, whatever
3)tell me how to stop grub without stopping me frombeing able to get onto windows 7 -probably MOST important
Oh yeah i have all the original windows 7/ ubuntu discs if needed
Please i need/want an asnwer quickly im familiar with cmd and all that stuff but please
and this is COMPLETELY off subject but anyone reccomend a good free antivirus software- if you just have this information dont bother good answer that works I’ll give points to.
THANK YOU everyone regardless of your input unless its just complete BS =)

Microsoft is extremely picky when it comes to boot sectors. You may be able to go in with a live distro and write a new entry, but I’m not sure how win 7 will react to it.
Your best option is to backup and reformat.
