Ultimate Aero Tt to Break Veyron’s Speed Record
The U.S. is home to the most number of speed addicts in the auto industry. One company which prides itself in manufacturing cars which gives speed addicts the thrill of a rocket ride is Shelby Super Cars (SSC). This American automobile manufacturer based in the Washington State is the producer if the super fast super car SSC Aero.
The company uses General Motorsâ pushrod engine V8 for the Aero. Recently, the super car maker announced that they will be gunning for the land speed record of a production car next week. The super car manufacturer announced that the attempt to set the speed record for a production car will be on the 21st of March 2007.
In cooperation with MMK Racing, SSC closed down a 12-mile stretch of Highway 93 in Elko County, Nevada. The closed down highway will be where SSC will attempt to break the 253 miles per hour top speed set by the Bugatti Veyron with the Ultimate Aero TT. MMK was hired by the SSC to facilitate the attempt by ensuring the safety during the attempt and at the same time provide laser traps which will verify the speed that will be attained by the Ultimate Aero TT.
Under the leadership of founder Jerod Shelby, SSC spent seven years to create the ultimate sports car that they hope will break the speed record set by the Bugatti Veyron. The ultimate Aero is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine which can produce as much as 1183bhp and a torque of 1094 ft-lb. The Ultimate Aero produces the most horsepower among production cars in the world.
Tests conducted on the Ultimate Aero revealed that the super car has a super low coefficient of drag of only .357. The tests conducted at NASAâs Langley, Virginia facility showed that the super car can reach speeds of up to 273 miles per hour. With all that power, the Ultimate Aero remains user friendly with a remarkable handling ability and the interior is filled with features one will commonly see in a luxury sedan.
The Ultimate Aero will be attempting to break the record set by the Bugatti Veyron. The super car is currently the fastest, most powerful, and the most expensive street-legal production car in the world. The car is built by Volkswagen AGâs subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS. The super car set the current speed record for production cars at 407.5 kilometers per hour or 253.2 miles per hour.
The Veyron is named after French racing great Pierre Veyron who has won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the legendary Bugatti team. The Veyron is powered by a W16 engine. This means that it is equivalent to two V8 engines fused together to form a âWâ. The super car is also fitted with specially designed performance enhancing parts jut like Dynomax exhaust system.
Whether the V8 of the Ultimate Aero will beat the W16 of the Veyron still remains to be seen. And while the SSC is busy prepping the Aero for its date with destiny, the rest of the world can only wait and see.
