Ukraine was part of Soviet Union up to 1991, when it became independent state with its own language. Use of Russian language together with its own Ukrainian goes hand in hand, and since there is some Russian natives living in Ukraine, especially in the east and south of Ukraine, Russian has been a language used in daily life in Ukraine.
