Im trying to understand the Addiction to pain meds ….. I have seen my Ex throw her life away for these drugs Lost me a hard working guy who took care of her Children she lost her friends and just lost her Job … I can see if its Crack Cocaine or Harder Drugs but how can an addiction to Pain meds get people Hooked and Cloud there mind plus shes a hard drinker and never drank before untill recently Thank God Im out of it I tried to help but she is in denial so please give input its not oxycodone or oxycontine

prescription pain meds are just as addicting as illegal drugs like crack or heroin. pain meds (like morphine or vicodin for example) have very “euphoric” effects, esp in large doses. They give people a “numbing” or “high”. People don’t understand however, that these drugs are very potent vasodilators and such, and esp when taken in large amounts can cause rapid drops in blood pressure (which can cause ultimately cardiac disrhythmias and arrest), and can severely depress respiratory drive, causing respiratory arrest and death. They also alter ability to drive and function and focus. Coupled with alcohol they are even worse, as alcohol is also a depressant. Such a shame that people become dependant on these things! I am sorry that your ex threw her life away for this…
