Trouble sleeping due to medication, please help!?

Question by BlueDream24: Trouble sleeping due to medication, please help!?
I am an 18 year old male, who is currently diagnosed with ADHD and Insomnia. I am prescribed Adderall (central nervous system stimulant) for my ADHD, and Sonata (central nervous system depressant) for my Insomnia. It seems as if my body is contradicting itself. When I take Adderall it stimulates me, keeping me awake throughout the day and half of the night (I usually go to sleep at 2-4 a.m., and I have to wake up at 7 a.m. [monday-friday].) Before I go to sleep I have to take Sonata, but it seems that all it really does is lowers the stimulating effects of the Adderal from an Amphetamine strength (Adderall is Dextro-Amphetamin, with stimulating effects equal to that of Methamphetamine, “Meth”.), to a strength similar to that of caffeine. If anyone could provide NON-medication tips on how to relax myself, please post them :). Thank you.

P.S. I have already discussed this with my doctor, so please do not tell me to see a doctor, he is currently in the process of trying new medications

hardest thing to do is fall asleep when you’ve got a lot on your mind. try taking a warm bath (relaxes muscles, always makes me sleepy) and then getting warm and cozy in bed and either read by a small lamp or candle (overhead, bright lights are way bad, they turn your brain on high) or watch boring tv. If that doesn’t work, you can try this thing we learned in this silly yoga class i had to take once, but it actually does kinda work: you lay down and close your eyes and try to compartamentalize everything you’re dealing with. Like, pretend there’s little file folders in your head and you’re just moving things into their proper place. If you’re afraid of forgetting something or forgetting appointments, have paper and a pen by your bed so you can write them down and relax.
