Question by Stay Away: Too much young stress..?
I will not go into details, but here’s the essential:
I am just 15, and I have a pretty normal life.
Now, there is this project my adult brother is working on. A long and big project.
You see, I am very skilled. And I offered my help, because I am very good at what he might need.
Such stupidity of my side. Offering my help? That ruined my life.
He gave me an…. assignment related to this project.
I might be very skilled, but I am still too young and unexperienced for this assignment. He overestimated me.
I am realistic, and I know it is extremely stupid to give someone of my age such a big task.
But he thinks everything is so easy…. and I don’t blame him, some of it was my fault, I fed him with ideas of my great skill.
But yes, the task is big, and hard. He thinks it is extremely easy, but I know it is very hard.
I tried to explain him. But my explanations don’t work, because first of all, he has NO idea about how this field works in the first place. That’s right people: I know things he doesn’t, even thought he is the one in charge and is the adult.
My explanations are logical, and his answers are ridiculous.
Let’s put a simple example:
He knows absolutely nothing about farming. And I am fairly good at it. He tells me to plant and grow a ROCK. And I tell him “Err…. I can’t do that, a rock is too hard and…” but he will answer “Blah blah, just use a seed”
I can’t argue with him, he always thinks he is right, and will never accept an excuse. No matter how obvious or logical it is.
What am I supposed to do? I am too young, and I made the stupid mistake of offering my help to someone who has no idea how things work in the first place.
I can’t explain the impossibility of my problem to him: he will ignore it, he thinks he’s always right.
I can’t quit: He’d kill me after all our arrangements (we discussed about this project a lot, he ended up with a big project idea, and I was the idiot who said “sure, I’ll help”)
This is extremely stressful for such a teenager like me. I am stuck. This is probably *my only worry* in my life. And it is the hardest of all.
I seek the word of wiser men and women.

I’d just do everything he says, down to the letter. If he wants you to plant a rock, do it.
Also, try to talk to him about scaling down your portion of the job. After all, YOU volunteered to help. Its not your project.
