Toddler problem (20 charrrrrrr**)?

Question by Shandi: Toddler problem (20 charrrrrrr**)?
My baby cousin Kessie is suffering from some detachment. She began living with my family and I in December because her mother entered a 10 month rehab for severe heroin addiction. She just turned 3 in February. She’s really advanced for her age. She is beginning to read and do math already. As soon as she moved in she became very attached to my sister Krislen who was 5 months pregnant at the time. She stayed on her hip at all times. We was preparing for the baby to come in early April but when he was 6 weeks early. He got to come home just after a week and a half after birth because he was doing so well. It was very dramatic for Kessie and she began to become very jealous. Krislen tries to show Kessie and the new baby equal attention because she knows how attached she is. But Kessie is becoming very unbarable. She won’t leave my sister alone. She’s a toddler and toddlers get into things but everytime we tell her to put things down she cries and says “Krislen and my Mommy don’t love me anymore. I wish my mommy would come home and I wish the baby wouldn’t have taken my Krislen away from me.” This is very stressful for my sister..

What can we do to help her jealousy and detachment?? We don’t want her to feel ignored and forgotten..please help

maybe you could try seperating some “special” time that just kessie and krislen can spend together each day. Explain that you love her so much that you want to spend an hour just the two of them. But also explain that baby needs attention too.. but then try and help her to see that she can be apart of taking care of baby instead of not being apart of it..Give her some special jobs to do..believe it or not..toddlers are very smart and they do listen..you just need to give positive feedback to her instead of intiating negative consequences for getting into things.. direct her attention away from the negative and into the positive..
