Tips on breaking a habit/addiction?

Question by Meagan K: Tips on breaking a habit/addiction?
I have two different habits/addictions that I am trying to break… and it’s really tough. sometimes I’ll quit for several weeks and think I’m done for good, and then all the sudden I have a sort of relapse and start doing the same old crap again. It’s depressing…. Like I will never truly be able to stop.

Anyways, neither of these habits are very healthy and I’m trying to kick them. Any tips??? It’s sooo hard….

BTW it’s not like I’m doing hardcore drugs or anything, just so you guys don’t freak out LOL. But I am embarrassed/ashamed of both of them, and some of you already know what they are… I’d rather just not post about it.

look into the future and see if the benefits of quitting out weight the continuation.
anytime you think about repeating the habit ask yourself if it’s to your long term benefit or harm.
people who say they don’t have the willpower to quit are just making excuses because there are many things we do or don’t do daily that take willpower.
like sometimes we might get angry at someone and think about screaming in their face or worse and we don’t. that’s will power in action.
so it’s basically determination and perseverance to quit. just want to quit more than you want to continue doing it.
there are many motivational books in a bookstore or library that have specific techniques for quitting habits. usually thru disassociation, negative association, positive reinforcement. i’m sure the techniques are on the web too. probably youtube videos also. seems like i can find a youtube video about anything and everything i want to know.
