Leading Pain Doctors’ Society: Rx Drug Abuse Exploding Over Past Decade
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 24, 2010
According to alarming new research from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, prescription drug abuse surged 400 percent from 1998-2008. The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), a leading medical society dedicated to safe Interventional Pain Management (IPM) techniques, is using National Pain Awareness Month as an opportunity to highlight the lethal problem of prescription drug abuse in the United States and its escalation over the past decade.
“Poor clinician training, a general lack of appreciation of the risks with these medications, and inadequate or poor coordination of prescription monitoring programs are all contributing to a national prescription drug abuse epidemic that unfortunately continues to spiral out of control,” said Dr. David Kloth, national spokesman, board member and past president of ASIPP. “The numbers are completely staggering.”
Massachusetts Medical Society Urges Attention to Advanced Care Planning Issues
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) March 24, 2005
The Massachusetts Medical Society is urging citizens across the state to consider completing advanced planning directives for end-of-life-care issues and is calling attention to its website www.healthcareproxy.org to assist individuals and families in doing so.
ÂThe sad and tragic case of Terry Schiavo should bring widespread attention to this critically important need for individuals and families, said John A. Fromson, M.D., vice president for medical affairs of the Society and a member of the Massachusetts Commission on End of Life Care.
ÂEnd-of-life issues will reach every one of us at some time or other, either as a patient, a loved one, or family member, said Fromson. ÂIt is vitally important that individuals be prepared, not only to have their wishes be carried out, but also to avoid the potential confusion, difficulties, regret and trouble among friends, family and loved ones that can occur in the absence of directed wishes.Â
