Marijuana remains one of the most abused drugs especially among the youth and has over 200 street names such as mary jane, weed, herb, pot, ganja, hash, among others. It comes from a Cannabis Sativa plant and is green or brown in appearance. The drug is derived from the flowers, leaves, seeds, and stems of the marijuana plant. Marijuana contains over 400 chemicals but the main active ingredient is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and is responsible for the drug’s psychoactive and mind-altering effects.

I have a cousin that’s an alcoholic and drug user. I tell my kids, “See that man over there? Yeah, the drunken one staggering around. Stay away from him and never be like him. He’s had boyfriends in prison and he’s just nasty.”

A study that included more than 100,000 patients who received implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) found that about 20 percent did not meet evidence-based guidelines for receipt of an ICD, and that these patients had a significantly higher risk of in-hospital death than individuals who met criteria for receiving an ICD, according to a study in the January 5 issue of JAMA.
