Substance abuse in the Marines?

Question by Beth: Substance abuse in the Marines?
My husband is a Marine, currently in Pensacola, FL. He graduated a-school last week and should be moving on to c-school by now, but they are holding him in Pensacola because of an alcohol abuse problem. He had his first SARP meeting today and was told he is being put on a 2 week program. Some of the other guys in the program said they were told the same thing, 2 weeks…but following the two weeks they had to remain in Pensacola for a year for further counseling/treatment. There is also mention of this in some of his paperwork he received. Will they really keep him there that long, making 00 a week and not doing anything? He’s done with classes so besides this program, and of course duty and PT he would have nothing to do for a year. And would they really hold up c-school for that long? It seems outrageous to me why they wouldn’t send him on to c-school and have him continue the SARP program there. Does anyone have any info on this, or a website where I could learn more about it? It seems his chain of command is giving him misinformation or not telling him all the details, by saying it is just a 2 week program. Thanks for any info you might have.

He had better follow the program and then join AA – he will get booted out if he doesnt, sad to say.
