Should there be marijuana law reforms nationwide more so than what is currently occurring?

Question by DiGGiT: Should there be marijuana law reforms nationwide more so than what is currently occurring?
Think of all the positives that come from this illegal plant:
-industrial hemp that can be used to make paper, clothing, and pretty much anything else along those lines.
-cures or lessens the effects of many major diseases.
-is proven to be far less dangerous than cigarettes, alcohol, and other illegal drugs.
-hasn’t been responsible for a single death.
-stimulates creativity for many that use it.

Negatives of marijuana:
-Makes many people lazy.

Results of making marijuana illegal:
-Jails don’t have room for serious criminals do to overcrowding because of the vast majority of people that use marijuana.
-Teenagers have more desire to use marijuana because it is taboo.
-Teenagers are more likely to try hard drugs because they feel that adults lied about the effects of marijuana and are probably being deceptive about the effects of hard drugs.
-Stoners are more likely to have a longer and harder jail sentence than child molesters and murderers.

Positives of legalizing or making it’s use a petty offense:
-Law enforcement can focus on more serious crimes.
-Jails would be freed up to hold serious criminals.
-Removing the taboo surrounding it’s use, removing the thrill of using because it’s illegal.
-can be used to heal those in need.

In the words of Jimmy Carter: “Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana in private for personal use.”
