I’m one of those people that think jail has become too comfortable for criminals but I do believe that counseling is important as well as education. Any repeat offenders need some jail time. I’m sure some type of counseling can be arranged. I really like that sheriff in Arizona with the pink for the inmates and tents in the heat. My nephew, a real loser, decided he preferred to go to jail for six months rather than pay his back child support. Since the weather here is much like Arizona, I think a tent in the heat with lots of work like the WPA programs of WWII, very basic meals and no TV would have changed his attitude about going to jail. I also think it would deter some drug users and make them really think about it. Those that are truly hooked need much more than counseling but surely need help if they are ever to get off drugs. But they need to get that help while incarcerated. Everyone needs to realize there are consequences.
