Richfield pondering second magnet school

Sun-Current Today TV News Tuesday, Oct. 6 Richfield is continuing its investigation into the creation of a second choice school for elementary school students. At its Oct. 5 meeting, the board discussed the possibility of creating a science, technology, engineering and mathematics magnet school, or STEM school. The concept of a STEM school was the program of choice by parents surveyed, easily outdistancing a fine arts curriculum. If the district is to add a STEM school, it is intended to serve kindergarten through fifth-grade students, and could happen by next fall. Creation of the school would likely be part of a plan to convert the districts two elementary schools from kindergarten through second grade to kindergarten through fifth grade. The district already offers a choice school, Richfield Dual Language School, which provides K-5 students with English and Spanish curriculum. Bloomington Jefferson High School Theatre Company will present Forever Plaid this week. The off-Broadway musical about four high school boys who have a dream of being famous like the musical groups they idolize opens Wednesday night. Performances are at 7:30 pm Oct. 7-10 at the school auditorium, 4001 W. 102nd St., Bloomington. A 3 pm performance is scheduled Sunday, Oct. 11.
