Residential treatment center information?
Question by swimmer: Residential treatment center information?
My psychologist wants to send me to a residential treatment center. Basically I haven’t done well with outpatient treatment and I’ve been hospitalized 4 times. I haven’t made a lot of progress- I’m still have a lot of suicidal thoughts and problems with self harm, and the episodes of mania still come and go. Does anyone have any experiences of information about these types of programs? What types of items will we be not allowed to have? Will it be a lot like the hospital setting? Thanks.

Its similar to the hospitals, but designed for you to be able to stay longer if needed. They usually have a lot better food and more things to do, like go outside or go to a gym. They’re not as intense on the counseling usually. They try to give you an environment that’s as close enough to real life so you can take what you learn there and apply it in the real world easier.
Also, they usually have a school there for middle and high schoolers. Think part summer camp, part psych ward, and part boarding school. They often allow more items than a regular hospital, but the rules are different at each RTC.
