Relapse….Lose everything for Rehab?

Question by Anonymous: Relapse….Lose everything for Rehab?
Thanks for those who answer and are helpful. Im a 25 year old male who works in investment banking for one of the top financial firms in America. I have an incredible life, an amazing job which I love, a condo, a sports car, an amazing and supportful family, and an addiction which im afraid could lead to problems. Right now im a weekend warrior who starts friday and uses until Sunday, whether its drugs or alcohol. During the weekdays I have a great routine, I never use, I work out, my life is great, however, when the weekend hits, I start drinking, and often times it leads to other….well drugs. Im miserable for a couple days but mid-week im back to normal and I repeat actions I tell myself I will never repeat again. Come Firday, I feel like im back to normal and I can go out and have fun, however, that always leads to a long weekend of partying and im literally depressed for days after. My question is, do you think I should give up my job and seek help? Or maybe just start going to meetings and giving that a shot? im just afraid that each time mid-week hits, and I feel like im on top of the world again, ill keep using and doing stupid things until one day, that will be it. Thanks for your help

Well, i don’t think getting help would cause you to lose your job. You are heading on a bad road it seems, creating unhealthy habits that could lead to a rocky future down the road – not worth losing your lovely life and family over it. I would go see a doctor – tell him or her exactly what you said here, see what they say, try and find out “why” you are using. The doctor can tell you what you should do and find the best plan for you, usually workplaces cannot just fire you for having an addiction – usually most workplaces are on board with treatment programs etc.

Keep in mind that your future, family and life are far more important and should come before everything, getting back to a healthy lifestyle is incredibly important. See a doctor, talk to someone about it, take it one day at a time. It’s great to know that you realize your behavior is problematic, a lot of users will be in denial about their use, i think if you get help as soon as you can, you’ll save yourself a lot of grief.

good luck!
