I am trying to help my best friend,she is so upset.Any ideas welcome.Her Husband went to rehab-they have been together 10 years.He started drinking heavily and ignoring thier child and his responsibilities,she gave him an ultimatum.He left and was a drunk living off friends,he wanted to see their child and she said he had to sober up=rehab.He did.1 year ago and now he lieves with his Brother(who is sober) he works off his keep at his house rebuilding it.He sees his daughter once a week,talks to her on the phone(she is 9) twice a week.When he comes to pick her up-someone else has to drve him(dui)
he has given her(my firend) a hug,fixed her car,and shows he cares in other ways.She tried to get close to him a couple moths ago and he said it is “part of the program” for him to NOT work on anything but himself? .He just shows no emotion to my firend and acts like an EX Husband.Is AA really like that?no relationship for over a year?p.s. they tried to be “intimate” twice and he couldnt-meds?
I forget to add that her and I work together and she works so hard to support her and her daughter,he has no interest in paid work at this time because he “has to focus on his recovery” We all think its great he is sober but,he laid all the responsibilities in her lap.She works double shifts sometimes and he doesnt seem to care.When he calls the house he asks to speak to his child and not her.Does anyone else see some resentment toawrds her ? Al anon is a great idea I will mention it to her.
