Recovery Groups Offer Walk in the Park

Redlands, CA (PRWEB) September 15, 2006

The Association of Community-Based Organizations (ACBO) will hold the Fourth Annual Recovery Happens Walk on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sylvan Park in Redlands.

“The Recovery Happens Walk is a celebration for those who have overcome alcohol or chemical dependency or mental illness,” said Beverly Smith, executive director of Miracles in Recovery, one of the many community-based organizations participating in the event. “It will provide a fun, drug and alcohol-free place to go and have fun.”

Children’s games and prizes, free food, live rock and jazz music and a drawing are some of the activities taking place at the Recovery Walk.

ACBO is an association of community organizations that work with the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health, Alcohol and Drug Services to reduce drug and alcohol abuse.

The Morongo Basin Mental Health Association Panorama Ranch, an ABCO member that helps people recover from addictions in the Twenty Nine Palms and Yucca Valley area, is coordinating this event.

Miracles in Recovery, Inc. of San Bernardino provides transitional living for those who are between recovery from a drug addiction and independent living. Miracles in Recovery will have an information booth about these services and about Save the Babies, its perinatal drug treatment program for pregnant women at an information booth during the Recovery Happens Walk.

Besides information about the services offered by Miracles in Recovery and other organizations working to stop drug and alcohol abuse, many other local businesses and organizations will display the goods and services they offer.
