Positive drug test for work?

Question by Matt M: Positive drug test for work?
I know many companies do drug tests, and I was just wondering, what happens if you fail that test?
I heard if you are a minor they can contact your parents, but let’s say a 20 year old male tests positive for methamphetamines.
Other than not getting the job is there anything else that can happen? Could this be written on a employment record, or would the police be contacted?
This is pre-job testing, specifically.

It depends upon the company. Some companies will fire you right then and there, others will make you go into rehab (or else fire you if you don’t). You may be put on some kind of “probation” and if you fail a second one, you are gone. If this is pre-job testing, then they probably will not hire you. At this point they have not invested much of anything in the way of training you, so they have no reason to offer you any kind of second chance to clean up your act.

Drugs or being a gainfully employed useful member of society – you kind of have to choose one. Even if your job doesn’t test you, meth will cause you to loose your job. Coming into work high, needing to steal from the company to pay for your drug habit, coming in late, etc. – in the end, drugs in general and the very addictive meth in particular, will end up costing you your job.
