Question by mrs.gill: pain pill addiction.. withdrawl. details inside. please help me out.?
my mom is 34 years old and has been taking hydrocodones every day for about 2 years, in the beggining she took about 12 or 13 then slowly went down to about 6 a day. the last time she took some was yesterday, she took 4 of them, she has not taken any today because she is trying to get off of them. she has been having loose bowels, nausea, vomiting, kinda shakey, she will get hot then cold and ever once ina while her heart will start beating fast. im very proud of her for trying to get off of them i was wondering are these normal syptoms for withdrawl and if so how long will she have to go through this before she is back to normal? and also is there anything i can do to help her, any medicines that would be okay to take for these symptoms? i dont want any mean or stupid answers please. i asked this once already and im asking again with more info. please help me out! thanks so much

Any opiate pain tablets are addictive and will cause withdrawal symptoms such as you describe when coming off them. She could minimise this by a gradual reduction. Breaking the tablets into quarters will give her more fine control over the reduction: i.e 1, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 . She should take it slow – only dropping to the next lower dose when she feels able but no more than 4-5 days between reductions. Believe it or not – the hardest to give up is the last small amount – it’s when the psychological dependence is greater than the physical one. While she is going through this tell her to avoid Tea, Coffee, and Cola drinks – but drink lots of fruit juice or water. Support her by telling her often how proud you are of her
She is lucky to have such a caring daughter.
