Origins Recovery Centers Appoints Chief Psychiatrist

South Padre Island, TX (PRWEB) August 31, 2010

Origins Recovery Centers announced today that it has appointed Dr. Jason Evans to the role of Chief Psychiatrist at its treatment facility located on South Padre Island, Texas. Dr. Evans will be responsible for managing all psychiatric-related care delivered at the forty-bed campus.

“Origins is committed to leveraging effective addiction medicine within our treatment programs. Dr. Evans’ appointment reflects our dedication to delivering cutting-edge diagnostic and psychopharmacological care to clients who struggle not only with chemical dependency, but co-occurring disorders as well,” said Origins’ Chief Executive Officer Ben Levenson. Many addicts and alcoholics do not suffer from co-occurring disorders. However, for those who do, Origins’ therapists work to help them contextualize co-occurring disorders, like anxiety, bi-polar and PTSD within their overall perspective of recovery. “Origins successfully treats clients with a variety of complex diagnoses. Dual-diagnosed clients can get and stay sober too when properly treated,” said Levenson.

Born in Nassau, Bahamas, Dr. Evans earned his Bachelor of Arts at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1998. He then attended Temple University School of Medicine at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine. His post-graduate training included an Internal Medicine internship in the Residency Training Program at Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and he completed his General Psychiatry Residency at the esteemed Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. His experience includes treating the chemically-dependent in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

“We are honored to have Dr. Evans in this essential role. Along with his command of addiction psychopharmacology and significant experience treating the chemically-dependent, he demonstrates authentic compassion for and connectedness with the patients – he’s a wonderful fit for Origins” said Vonnie Nealon, LCDC, Director of Clinical Services. Origins places great emphasis upon the importance of correctly diagnosing and simultaneously treating substance use and co-occurring disorders. “We believe that focusing exclusively on chemical dependency without paying careful attention to any accompanying disorders can be myopic and ineffectual – it is essential to identify and competently address the full scope of a patient’s presenting problems,” she said. All of Origins’ patients undergo a complete psychiatric evaluation and other medical examination upon admission to treatment.

“It is a privilege to work with a treatment team so dedicated to successful outcomes in its patients. It is through a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach that we can effectively treat and positively impact our patient’s lives,” said Evans. “I look forward to augmenting the addiction medicine practiced at Origins while working concertedly with my colleagues to deliver an outstanding level of treatment that is consistent with best practices.”
