One Ill, One Pill, One Bill. Is this what we support?
Question by dm_felionous: One Ill, One Pill, One Bill. Is this what we support?
In America we believe in for profit medicine. We support it and evidently we will fight for it. The idea is that a doctor will do a better job healing us if he can expect a big check when he is done. But doesn’t that mean his interest is in the check and not in us? What if there is substantially better profit from testing and treating a person than curing them? If we had a 10 cent pill that cured cancer do you believe a doctor would rather sell you that then sell you a million dollars worth of treatments and test and surgery? Do you think a drug company would rather sell that then the chemo therapy drugs that cost thousands of dollars per month. Are we actually getting the best medicine for the profit? Is it possible that profits should not be the prime concern in human lives? Tell me what you think.
Thank you Zeit. You put some thought into the answer, as usual.
Thank you Keki though I have to wonder if the insurance lobby is paying you $ .25 per post plus min. wage. If they are not you really should look into it. A few thousand people make a living wage that way and in this economy I don’t begrudge you the job.

NO!!!

YES!!!
You hit the nail right on the head. The profit motive PREVENTS us from finding cures for many of the more ‘profitable’ illnesses like cancer and diabetes. As long as Big Pharma continues to make BILLIONS of dollars, no cure to these will be found. If one is, it will be suppressed.
But the lie is believed by too many Americans for true change to happen. They believe that it is “American” to make a profit at everything. That is in itself the lie.
One telling statistic sums it up in my opinion:
One drug for lowering cholesterol (name rhymes with Jupiter), made more in PROFITS last year than the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA COMBINED !!!
With that kind of motive, do you think that there were people who were prescribed the drug when something better or cheaper was availible? I think so.
